New Glucose Management System from J&J Approved
The new OneTouch Ping, designed and manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Animas, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The system is the first full-feature insulin pump which communicates wirelessly with a remote blood glucose meter. Patients can easily deliver insulin discretely and conveniently without ever touching the pump.
The new system supports individualized control of blood sugar. Patients can deliver doses with the lowest basal and bolus increments (0.025 U/hr and 0.05 U, respectively) currently available. This supports optimization of insulin delivery.
The OneTouch Ping incorporates proven blood glucose monitoring technology developed by Johnson & Johnson’s LifeScan. The meter system utilizes OneTouch Ultra Test Strips. Those are the leading brand of diabetic test strips available, covered by many health insurance plans with the lowest co-pay.
The system is simplified with a device that seamlessly integrates with a patient’s lifestyle. The pump can be tucked into a pocket, secured under clothing, or clipped to a belt. The system is waterproof for up to 24 hours at a depth of 12 feet. The system also has a color screen to support readability of the pump information.
In addition to these features, the system also integrates seamlessly with the ezManager MAX Diabetes Management Software. That tool allows users to download diabetes management data from both the meter remote and insulin pump, as well as integrated blood glucose data. Clinicians can assess both blood glucose history and insulin delivery to better determine therapeutic options.
