New Glucose Monitoring System

Abbott Diabetes Care launched a new blood glucose monitoring device, the FreeStyle Lite, after receiving FDA approval.

The test is purported to be easier for patients to use. It does not require coding before a new set of test strips are used. The system only requires a very small blood sample from the patients for testing, about the size of a pin head. Patients can alternate testing sites to minimize pain associated with areas that have many nerve endings, like fingertips.

The testing system is also small in size, which makes it convenient for patients to carry with them. It includes a large, high contrast display with a backlight that facilitates viewing of results.
