Wireless Pulse Oximeter Launched by Nonin

Nonin Medical, Incorporated announced the launch of their new, wireless fingertip pulse oximeter, the Onyx II Model 9560. The company announced the product launch with a press release describing the monitoring tool. The system was also on display at the American Telemedicine Association meeting in April.

This new device supports accurate, ongoing monitoring of patient vital signs. The data can also be remotely submitted to clinicians across time. The Onyx II incorporates Bluetooth wireless technology with the existing fingertip oximeters in the company’s Onyx line.

A noteworthy advantage of this system is that it seamlessly works with system integrators across the world. The system is compatible with other products available from Nonin, as well as open standards such as IEEE 11073, the Health Device Profile from Bluetoooth, and Continua.

For patients, this new offering allows them increased freedom secondary to an expanded ability to go about daily activities. One factor encouraging product development was this interest in supporting patient freedom through development of a remote disease management tool.

Nonin has a longtime commitment to the development of open standards healthcare products. The company was one of the founding members of the Continua Alliance. The company, overall, is dedicated to the development of solutions for noninvasive monitoring of physiologic processes. Its areas of specialty include sensor design and signal processing.
