McKesson Announces Agreement to Buy Awarix
McKesson Corporation announced an agreement with Awarix Incorporated on July 16th to acquire the company. In April, McKesson announced plans to acquire Practice Partner, an electronic records vendor.
Awarix created an enterprise patient care visibility system, one of the first companies to create such a system. The program promotes quality experiences for patient through a high quality and efficient system. To promote these outcomes, the software provides clinicians with feedback in real time to better manage patient flow.
The Avarix system identifies problems in the patient care system that cause delays in treatment and prolong the time that patients spend in the facility. That information is relayed to providers through monitors that display patient status and facility activity using color codes and depiction of the facility’s floor plan.
McKesson plans to leverage the solution as part of an effort to improve resource management, speed the time required to make clinical care decisions, and reduce delays in the provision of therapy. This tool provides an overall management system to maximize efficiency.
This acquisition signals the continued interest in promoting the patient experience. As reported last month, the Cleveland Clinic expanded management oversight to explicitly address this consideration by adding to their staff. The system hired a Chief Experience Officer to focus on such outcomes.
