New Insulin Pen Approved

Sanofi-aventis received FDA approval (pdf) for its new insulin pen, the Lantus SoloStar. The disposable pen is prefilled with insulin suitable for patients with either type 1 or 2 diabetes.

The pen specifically provides patients with LANTUS doses, the company’s insulin product which is the most commonly prescribed insulin worldwide.

The device is particularly patient friendly, it is easier for patients to transport compared to traditional insulin delivery with a syringe.
