Partnership Advances Robotic Systems
HealthSouth Corporation and Motorika announced a collaboration, in a press release from Motorika, to focus resources on robot-assisted rehabilitative therapy for direct patient care applications.
HealthSouth is the biggest provider of rehabilitative services in the country. Motorika is a technology-based corporation focused on robotic applications. The two plan to integrate their technology systems to support interoperability and create new products.
Current plans include implementation of tools from each of the companies by the partner. This cross-collaboration is intended to support improved outcomes for patients through technology development.
The rehabilitation market has the potential to grow exponentially with the ever-growing elderly segment of the population. Development of tools to support rehabilitation should improve patient outcomes, an obvious endpoint. Another possibility is the opportunity to minimize the time required for rehab and perhaps reduce the necessity of high levels of involvement from physical and occupational therapists. This could reduce overall costs.
