Vital Monitoring Facilitates Assessment Through Ease of Use
A new monitoring system designed by Dan Bishop was described in Medgadget. The device is intended to simplify collection of vital signs and, thus, ease provider workload.
The system is simply operated to provide baseline readings, which are obtained by healthcare providers. Patients can then be notified, via a light vibration transmitted to the device that a patient wears around their wrist, as monitoring updates are required.
Patients commence the monitoring sequence by activating the temperature sensor, swiping it across their forehead. This activation jumpstarts the system to assess pulse and blood pressure, both ascertained with sensors implanted in the monitor.
The vital system transmits the data wirelessly to an electronic chart that collects vitals. The system, thus facilitates monitoring multiple patients simultaneously.
