3M Launches Premier Surgical Mask
A new duckbill, tie-on surgical mask was introduced to the market by 3M, the 3M Filtron 1900. The mask is manufactured by Prestige Ameritech. Most of the materials are from the U.S. and the remainder are manufactured in Australia.
The new mask system is manufactured with proprietary filtration media. The filter within the new mask reduces the fogging which may can result from breathing into a surgical mask. In addition, the system has a rayon outer layer which supports both improved comfort and increased breathability.
The 3M Filtron 1900 also limits the muffling of speech and gives clinicians off-the-face comfort. Another feature is included which is preferred by clinicians, delta P. This is a particularly desirable quality for surgeons who complete procedures that are longer in duration.
The company notes that the ability to manufacture systems in the United States is variable. This is convenient for facilities across the country, with FDA oversight to ensure product safety. An additional benefit is that manufacturing can be rapidly increased in the case of unplanned events.
