New Line of Retrievers Launched by Concentric
A new line of retrievers from Concentric Medical, Incorporated was recently launched (pdf). The “V” series of the company’s Merci Retrievers joins the company’s existing line of Merci Retrievers. The devices are indicated to treat patients who have had an ischemic stroke and need blood flow restored.
The new “V” Retrievers have a tightly coiled distal end. This supports dislodging clots and resists stretching. The other end, proximally, of the retriever is a more loose coil. This allows both holding and wrapping a clot which was dislodged.
This line of retrievers have filaments included. This feature supports removal of blood clots from the brain by securing such. All the devices in the Retriever line are manufactured from Nitinol. This material is both shaped and flexible, allowing for linear delivery.
The “V” tools are available in a range of sizes and configurations to meet the varied needs required by different patient anatomies. Sizes include diameters of 3.0, 2.5, and 2.0 millimeters.
These new retrievers are purported to be the most efficient in the line of the Merci Retrievers, according to the company’s press release.
