Two New MEDIHONEY Formulas Introduced
The flagship wound care product, MEDIHONEY Wound and Burn Dressing, from DermaSciences was launched in two new formulations (pdf). Each of the new formulations includes 100 percent of the active Leptospermum Honey. Each further includes the company’s patented collodial sheet, the Honeycolloid. Both are packaged in tubing.
The availability of MEDIHONEY in the new formulation will allow broader utilization of the product indicated to treat intractable wounds. Specific types of wounds indicated for treatment include those which present a challenge to dress because of the anatomic location, wounds of patients who are sensitive to dressing changes, and wounds which are lightly draining.
The dressing and honey are intrinsically bound. This provides the means for the active agent, the honey, to remain in contact with the wound longer, even if the wound is draining. An advantage of the formula used in the MEDIHONEY is that the amount of stinging is reduced.
The company notes that these new formulations are considered the most sophisticated in the MEDIHONEY product line. They were made available in this new formulation at the request of clinicians who wanted to be able to use the product for a broader array of patients.
