B. Braun Introduces Regional Anaesthesia Device
The 2007 American Association of Nurse Anaesthetists annual meeting was the site of B. Braun’s introduction of their new product for regional anaesthesia, the Stimuplex Pen. The Pen provides support for nerve mapping during nerve blocking procedures.
The Stimiplex Pen is a non-invasive percutaneous nerve mapping device. The device supports location of superficial nerves during procedures to administer peripheral nerve blocks. The pen also identifies the ideal location for needle placement and the appropriate angle to introduce the needle.
The device focuses a small amount of current from the nerve stimulator. When used in conjunction with ultrasound guided nerve technology, it can improve identification capabilities. Nerves can be identified at a maximum of 3cm in depth. The device is useful for locating nerves in a variety of locations as required for axillary, wrist, interscalene, midhumeral, and femoral nerve blocks.
B. Braun representatives suggest that use of the device to perform peripheral nerve blocks will be both cost-effective, in addition to supporting delivery of care. The device can help clinicians in training perfect their delivery technique. An additional benefit is decreased pain for patients undergoing block procedures by reducing needle manipulation.
