Laser Device Approved for Pain Treatment

The TerraQuant device was approved by the FDA, a laser device that uses biostimulation to treat patients with either acute or chronic pain developed by Multi Radiance Medical. The company manufactures a variety of products that use lasers for therapeutic indications.

TerraQuant incorporates the company’s Multi Radiance Technology to safely deliver photon therapy to heal cells that are damaged. The device uses 25,000 milliwatts of peak power combined with the purported fastest, super pulsed laser. Pulses are delivered at billionths of a second. This provides cells with oxygen and light, which stimulate cell growth and nerve function, as well as increasing the rate of vascular and cellular activity.

This action produces high-energy density absorbed deeply by tissue, which improves the rate of pain relief by combining multiple therapeutic radiances through one delivery method. The radiances included in the TerraQuant are pulsed infrared, static magnetic field, super pulsed laser, and red light which, as combined, provide for rapid pain relief. A benefit of this synergistic approach is that therapy deeply penetrates tissue, up to five inches below the surface.

The device is indicated for use in patients with muscle spasm, arthritis, stiffness, and joint pain. Treatment works by promoting blood circulation locally and improving relaxation of muscle tissue. TerraQuant can also reduce the amount of swelling in the area. Four different treatment settings are available and treatment sessions range from five to ten minutes.

Research indicates that pain treatment with this modality had an analgesic effect up to 88 percent in patients suffering from arthritic pain in small and medium joints.
