Silver-Coated Endotracheal Tube from C.R. Bard Approved

A new tube for endotracheal placement was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for marketing. The Agento IC was developed by C.R. Bard, Incorporated, which is based in New Jersey. Marketing clearance was announced on the company website.

The Agento IC is coated with silver and was designed to limit the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) that is confirmed with microbiologic assessment. Data submitted to the FDA indicates that the product is capable of such. The company is also continuing research for publication about product benefits in that setting.
Bard develops, manufactures, and markets a variety of products which integrate life-enhancing medical technologies. Specialties for which the company develops and manufactures equipment include urology, oncology, vascular, and surgical specialties.

The company helped foster momentum to encourage the creation of products for single-use in the medical setting. One current goal of the company is to develop products that improve the opportunity for clinical benefit while reducing overall costs in the healthcare environment.
