Vertical Ultrasound for Anaesthesiology Showcased

The S-Nerve is a new tool for anaesthesiologists that was recently launched at the American Society of Anaesthesiologists meeting by SonoSite; the device launch was also detailed by SonoSite in a press release. The tool includes a variety of functionalities through use of ultrasound. It includes an array of transducers to image numerous anatomic locations.

The device was designed to support anaesthesia staff during a variety of procedures, including peripheral nerve blocks and central line placement. The tool is flexible enough to be used in the operating room or other facilities throughout the hospital, such as the busy emergency room.

Imaging is obtained with two simplified dials on the S-Nerve device and can provide visualization of nerve structures that are often hard to reach. The S-Nerve was manufactured with a VESA compliant mounting device, which allows a zero footprint. The device can be hung from the ceiling, mounted to an IV pole, or carried; this variety of options supports moving the device as the patient is transported.

The software, controls, and user interface for the S-Nerve include standard features required in the anaesthesia setting. Combined with those features are high quality images, rapid processing power, and data management system that leverage SonoSite’s M-Turbo system. The device power supports use of three different powerful algorithms simultaneously, which produces the superior image quality.

SonoSite procured the input from anaesthesiologists in designing and developing the S-Nerve. Those suggestions included the need for a small tool particularly to support completion of line placement and nerve blocks.
