Aspirin Test Ready for Market
The FDA approved market clearance (pdf) of Corgenix Medical Corporation’s new diagnostic test for patients having a heart attack, the AspirinWorks Test Kit. It is used to evaluate whether patients have received therapeutic benefit from aspirin therapy.
One benefit of the tool is that it only requires a urine specimen. The ELISA test kit qualitatively assesses aspirin’s anti-thrombotic effects. Current tests to evaluate effects of anti-thrombosis drugs require blood samples.
While some patients take daily aspirin therapy, not all receive the therapeutic benefits of such. Evaluating the presence of therapeutic effects is a critical step in determining the appropriate steps to treat the heart attack.
The system is already available in the European market.
