Catheter Approved for Thrombus Removal in Coronary Arteries

Possis Medical, Inc. received (pdf) FDA approval for a new catheter, AngioJet Spiroflex, designed for thrombectomy in small vessels. A similarly designed device, AngioJet Spiroflex VG, is suitable for larger peripheral vessels. FDA approval for other uses of the second catheter is under review at the FDA.

Possis’s business focus is devices for cardiac and vascular treatment. The new catheter entails unique design components; including polymer-clad spiral cut shaft technology and a soft tip. Such contribute to a device with improved tracking inside vessles and across difficult anatomy.
