ClariTee Probe Cleared for Use

A new, miniature probe for transesophageal echocardiography (pdf) was cleared for marketing in the U.S. The ClariTee probe and the Zura imaging system are designed and manufactured by ImaCor. The tools are specifically useful to monitor cardiac function episodically. Data that can be gathered with the tool includes ongoing hemodynamic status, providing for direct visualization of cardiac function and size. Data can also be gathered across time as pharmocologic interventions are completed.

The ClariTee system is a non-invasive modality. Most methods currently utilized to collect ongoing hemodynamic information provide inconclusive data, require invasive assessment approaches, or are both.

The single use device can be implanted for a period of up to 72 hours. With it in place, anaesthesiologists and critical care clinicians can assess left ventricular systolic function and cardiac preload over that extended time period.

The company suggests that this tool will be particularly useful for treatment of patients in the critical care setting, specifically perioperatively and in the intensive care settings. ImaCor specializes in the development of tools to support cardiac monitoring in the critical care setting.
