New Line of Pacemakers Launched in Europe
The newest member of the Boston Scientific line of pacemakers, the ALTRUA family, has received the CE mark. As such, marketing efforts across Europe have commenced. The company announced the approval news in a press release. Device approval is pending with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The ALTRUA is the most advanced pacemaker available from Boston Scientific. The device can deliver advanced treatment to patients even with a small profile. The tool also has a long life battery.
The device includes a number of new capabilities to support both diagnosis and therapy delivery. These tools ensure that the ideal treatment is delivered to each individual patient.
Additional features included are an option for multiple atrial ventricular (AV) delay programming. This feature minimizes the use of right ventricular pacing. An AV search hysteresis feature is incorporated which supports more flexibility in device programming. Ventricular Rate Regulation (VRR) allows treatment for patients with frequent atrial arrythmias.
A Minute Ventilation (MV) Sensor can treat patients that suffer from Chronotropic Incompentence. Data indicates that the blended sensor available from Boston Scientific is the only device capable of treating this condition. Automatic Capture is included to support ventricular management, checking the heart beat after pulse delivery.
This is the first pacemaker available from Boston Scientific indicated to treat patients with bradycardia. This condition causes an abnormally slow heartbeat which can deprive the body of oxygen.
