Portable Ultrasound System from Philips Introduced
Philips introduced a new handheld, portable ultrasound system. The Philips CX50 CompactXtreme is particularly designed to meet the needs of cardiologists who plan to use the tool at the bedside. The company issued a press release about the launch, though the product was initially showcased in May.
The system is about the size of a laptop, as requested by clinicians. Integrated in the system is the company’s PureWave transducer. Data validates use of this tool to improve penetration in patients who are difficult to image.
Also incorporated into the CX50 CompactXtreme is Philips’ XRES adaptive image processing. This tool reduces both haze and speckling that occur during all ultrasound imaging. Imaging completed with the new system has little to no noise, in addition to improved edge definition and clarity.
The small device incorporates high quality imaging that is generally associated with full size, extensive ultrasounds. Nevertheless, the system is small and portable, facilitating ease of use. Portability features include a built in battery and handle. A cart is also offered, to support maneuverability throughout the hospital.
