Skytron and Philips Commence Partnership for OR Systems

Skytron and Royal Philips Electronics have entered into an partnership whereby the two will collaborate to develop hybrid operating rooms for minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures. The collaborative effort was described by Health Imaging.

The new system will incorporate Skytron’s equipment for the operating room with the cardiovascular x-ray systems available from Philips. This new design will allow treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease in one operating suite.

Clinicians will be able to an array of interventional radiology procedures that require image guidance for completion. Specialties benefited include vascular and cardiac surgery, orthopaedics, and neurosurgery, as well as cardiology.

The specific tools from Philips include their specially designed imaging tables, along with interventional x-ray equipment. Skytron will provide control communication integration systems for the advanced operating room. Also provided will be surgical lighting and boom technologies. These features are specifically incorporated to support the needs of the hybrid suite.
