Brachytherapy Products Launched by Nucletron
Three new tools to improve delivery of brachytherapy for small, superficial malignancies were recently introduced by Nucletron. The company specializes in the development of tools for radiation oncology. Launch of the new products was described on the company’s website.
The three new products include the Source Position Check Ruler, CT/MR Compatible Applicator Clamp and Base Plate, and the Valencia Applicator. All three were approved for marketing clearance by the FDA, as well as the Canadian Ministry of Health. They are all designed to improve treatment delivery in conjunction with afterloaders from Nucletron.
The Source Position Check Ruler incorporates GAFChromic film. The tool supports quality assurance by ensuring correct operation and calibration of the brachytherapy system before treatment commences.
The CT/MR Compatible Applicator Clamp and Baseplate are for use if patients undergo magnetic resonance imaging procedures. The device supports optimal stabilization of compatible CT/MR applicators, along with other body-site applicators and solutions from Nucletron. The clamp has complete range of motion which supports patient setup for each treatment fraction being delivered. Cleaning and sterilization are supported by a hydraulic-free design and rugged titanium construction.
The Valencia Applicator design includes a flattening filter which ensures a higher degree of dose homogeneity than is available with surface applicators. This applicator is added to the Nucletron line of applicators, including the Freiburg Flap and Leipzig. Combined, these tools from Nucletron represent the broadest line of tools for the treatment of skin cancers.
