Fraxel Re:pair Laser Approved to Treat Skin Damage

Reliant Technologies received FDA approval for its Fraxel re:pair laser system. Approved indications for the device include ablation, coagulation, and skin resurfacing for patients with skin changes associated with damage or age. Studies reveal collagen remodeling, tissue tightening and contraction with treatment.

The Fraxel system combines technology from fractional photothermolysis and conventional CO2 resurfacing, dubbed Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation (FDDA). This is the first approval of an FDDA system.

The system targets an area of skin with treatment but does not affect tissue that immediately surrounds the treated area, which fosters healing of treated skin. The therapy acomplishes deep penetration in columns up to 1.6 mm deep. This approach can be used to treat delicate skin areas such as the chest and neck.
