See-Thru CPR Technology Approved

ZOLL Medical Corporation has procured the blessing of the FDA to commence sales for their new AED product, which incorporates technology to minimize interruption of CPR, according to a press release issued by the company. This practice of CPR delivery is a key component of the guidelines for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, which were developed by the American Heart Association. The new device is the ZOLL AED Pro with See-Thru CPR Technology.

Integration of the new technology allows clinicians to assess a patient’s response to resuscitation by displaying a patient’s heart rhythm in real time. Clinicians can continue delivery of CPR while simultaneously assessing ongoing ECG patterns.

The device also reduces the effects of compression artifact on a patient’s cardiac rhythm, allowing for assessment of resuscitative efforts while still delivering compressions. The tool further helps clinicians identify points at which it is both safe and appropriate to stop CPR and evaluate a patient’s heart rhythm.

An additional component of this new AED device are tools to support optimal delivery of CPR. The metronome is set to 100 beats per minute. The AED includes a screen to ensure delivery of compressions correctly, considering both depth of compression and rate. CPR data is recorded and stored by the system. The tool can be used for both Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
