GE PET/CT Line Expanded

General Electric Healthcare launched a new PET/CT system, which the company described in a press release. The new system was added to the company’s line of Discovery scanners, which the company hopes to begin delivering to healthcare facilities by the last quarter of 2008.

The imaging system utilizes highly sensitive crystals, which are the standard for the most advanced PET/CT systems available on the market. Also incorporated into the system is VUE Point HD, High Definition imaging. That supports an increased ability to procure motion-free studies.

VUE Point HD is combined with other tools from GE to decrease motion during studies. This further supports detection of lesions, as well as improvements to quantitative accuracy and support for treatment planning. The GE tools also diminish the contrast-to-noise ratio, providing increased clinical confidence.

The system was particularly designed for use in the oncology setting. The vast majority of clinical PET/CT scans are completed on patients with malignancies.
