Marrow Aspiration Gets Update
Bone marrow aspiration is a mainstay in the daignostic toolkit of clinicians who specialize in hematologic malignancies; including leukemia and lymphoma. The technique requires accessing the intraosseous space, usually from the iliac crest, to obtain an adequate aspirate suitable for hematopathologic review.
Vidacare introduced a new device for bone marrow aspirations, the OnControl Aspiration System. The system provides an advanced design to facilitate sample procurement and minimizes pain for patients.
The OnControl incorporates the EZ-10 lithium-powered driver which is connected to a 15 gauge, 68mm needle with a beveled tip to ease through the bone. The system integrates tools to procure the aspirate sample.
VidaCare also created a training system to help clinicians adjust to using the new device. The simulation includes reaslistic feedback to the user during needle placement. This may also be suitable for young physicians learning to complete bone marrow aspiration.
