SenoRx Lumpectomy Device to Hit Market Next Year

Some patients undergoing lumpectomy for breast surgery will require radiation for further disease control. Medical News Today reported FDA approval of a new device designed to pinpoint the location where radiotherapy should be targeted.

The device from SenoRx, the Multi-Lumen Radiation Balloon Application, is placed during the lumpectomy procedure. It contains a vacuum, which removes surrounding fluid. The device then maintains the location to guide delivery of therapy.

The device expands the number of women eligible for balloon placement.
