Spinal Lesions Device Ready
ArthroCare Corporation designed a device to excise malignant tissue from the spine which just received marketing approval from the FDA, the Cavity SpineWand.
The device is used during minimally-invasive procedures to excise skeletal metastases or primary spine tumors.
Data from the American Cancer Society reveals that a significant proportion of individuals (30 to 70 percent) who die from a malignancy have cancerous lesions of the spine.
This new device may increase the lifespan of individuals with metastatic cancer (cancer that has gone to other sites in the body from where it originally developed) or provide means to ameliorate the pain associated with such lesions.
