System Evaluates Malignancy Response
Varian Medical Systems VAR developed a software program, I-Response, that evaluates how a tumor is responding to cancer treatment, including radiation and chemotherapy. The organization plans to highlight the tool at this week’s meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, as described in a press release.
The software uses analysis tools developed for PET/CT studies and functional diffusion mapping, a tool used with MR imaging. I-Response then assesses metabolic and cellular changes in tumor tissue. These tools allow detection of changes in the tumor, often before they are detectable with imaging studies alone. Clinicians can evaluate ongoing response to treatment in real-time.
The system is designed to seamlessly integrate with the Varian Dynamic Adaptive Radiotherapy system. The goal of these products is to offer patients idealized treatment planning based on their individual needs.
