Test for Colon Cancer Staging Introduced
A new test to support staging of colon cancer (pdf), available from DiagnoCure Oncology Laboratories, will now be available on the market. The company’s test, the Previstage GCC Colorectal Cancer Staging Test, is now ready for the market with a CLIA waiver from the Food and Drug Administration.
The new test provides significantly improved levels of sensitivity compared to current approaches to determine stage of disease in patients with colon cancer. The stage of cancer is an important factor upon which clinicians base treatment decisions.
Staging is generally completed through pathologic assessment of tumor specimens, including lymph nodes which have been sampled. Unfortunately, many patients do not have lymph nodes that are positive with pathologic examination tools. In fact, more than one-quarter of patients with pathologically negative lymph nodes go on to develop metastases.
The company notes the importance of the test approval as a means to grow the company’s business. This test can especially support awareness of the company’s expertise in the area of molecular cancer diagnostics.
DiagnoCure Oncology Laboratories is a subsidiary of DiagnoCure, Incorporated. The company specializes in the development of diagnostic tests used in the oncology setting. The company additionally offers laboratory services to help support clinical decision making.
