Infant Warmer Introduced by GE Healthcare

The Panda Warmer for infants was launched by General Electric Healthcare. This product is a new radiant warmer with a built in bed for the labor and delivery setting; information describing the Panda Warmer is posted on the GE website.

The Panda Warmer includes a recessed heater using a cal rod heating element, an alternative from the conventional overhead heater design. The heat is distributed to the infant in an hourglass pattern. This design removes excess heat from the system to subjected to caregivers.

The Panda Warmer also has a Turbo Pre-Heat mode to quickly warm the unit to provide immediate thermoregulation, this feature also eliminated “Check Baby” alarms. The unit heats to maximum within 12 minutes and then reverts to half the system power.

The bed design facilitates easier access to the infant by new parents and clinicians alike by removing overhead obstructions. It additionally provides the newborn with uniform heat across the entire surface of the mattress. Each of the four sides of the warmer fold down to provide access.

The system includes a patented dovetail rail, to mount equipment and accessories. Storage space is also included in the Panda Warmer with the wooden cabinet and an optional rotating drawer.

An optional feature is an integrated resuscitation system which incorporates an integrated Air/O2 Blender. Also included is a new T-piece resuscitation option. Another optional system is advanced SpO2 monitoring which provides ongoing monitoring of pulse rate and oxygenation during resuscitation efforts. That information is displayed on a full-color control panel at the bedside.

The optional system requires minimal work to complete set-up, yet easily complies with standardized resuscitation protocols in perinatal care. The system was designed in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program Guidelines.
