Memorial Hermann Adopts AirStrip Technologies Tools

Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, based in Houston, has implemented the AirStrip OB software system (pdf) from AirStrip Technologies. This new software is for use by obstetricians and improves patient safety during labor and delivery and is the largest expansion of the new system thus far, as detailed on the AirStrip website.

The AirStrip OB system provides physicians with virtual, remote access to critical waveform data in real-time from labor and delivery (L & D) units across the hospital using a cell phone network. Clinicians can access this information from a Smart Phone or PDA in any location that cell phone service is available.

This system is the first that AirStrip developed for use with the company’s AirStrip platform and was already approved by the FDA. The company does have a patent pending on the technology. AirStrip OB tool incorporates Smart Client Technology and meets the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Almost forty hospitals across the country have already deployed the L & D system. The company notes their plans to expand the number of mobile devices with an internet connection that can use the AirStrip OB system. AirStrip also describes their technologies for remote and mobile surveillance as means to promote an improved care standard by facilitating critical communication.
