Opthalmic Ultrasound Receives Market Clearance
The FDA has approved Escalon Medical Corporation’s new MASTER-VU opthalmic B ultrasound scan system. The tool is available from Sonomed, Incorporated, a subsidiary of Escalon. News of the approval was described by Medical News Today.
The new system includes a B scan probe that is linked to a personal computer using a USB cable connection. The probe uses proprietary software from the company which enables the computer to be used as an ultrasound scanning system.
Features of the new system include calipers that allow for multiple intraocular measurements. The on-screen display can be annotated using both graphics and text. As well, 30-second clips and individual frames from a scrolling frame manager can be saved to the computer. As well, the system is both easy to install and maintain.
The device already receive the CE mark for use in Europe. Release of the product in the U.S. is planned to commence immediately.
Escalon Medical Corporation develops, markets, and distributes products for surgical, ophthalmic diagnostic, and pharmaceuticals. Additional tools are created for vascular access. Sonomed, the subsidiary, is dedicated to the development of diagnostic ultrasound products. The company’s focus is on the creation of instruments for ophthalmologists.
