Pioneer Surgical Technology Purchases Angrstrom

Angstrom Medica, Incorporated was acquired by Pioneer Surgical Technology, according to a piece published by the Healthcare Sales and Marketing Network. The financial terms of the deal were not shared publicly. Angstrom will be integrated into Pioneer’s Orthobiologics Division as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Angstrom develops biomaterials for orthopaedic applications, with a particular focus on the use of nanotechnology approaches. The company was the first to receive the FDA’s blessing for a nanotechnology device, NanOss. NanOss is a nanocrystalline calcium phosphate technology which creates highly osteoconductive material.

Pioneer develops and manufactures orthopaedic implants and instruments, including those for the completion of procedures to the spine. In July, the company launched a new spinal rodding system for use during minimally invasive approaches to surgical repair of the lumbar spine. The launch was detailed on Hospital Buyer.

The acquisition of Angstrom will strengthen the technologic resources of Pioneer, allowing expansion into nanotechnology-based approaches. In addition, this will expand the company’s product offerings. Earlier this year, Pioneer acquired Encelle, Incorporated. Encelle creates materials for tissue regeneration.
