Premier Completes Contract for Orthopaedic Transfusion System

Stryker Instruments and Zimmer US, Incorporated have both executed contracts with Premier Purchasing Partners, LP. These new contracts will provide Premier members with orthopaedic autotransfusion systems. The Healthcare Sales and Marketing Network posted the news.

Orthopedic autotransfusion systems are used to support blood management intraoperatively. Autotransfusion uses a patient’s own blood, lost during surgery, to replace blood volume. Blood can be collected from the patient either before or during surgery.

It can also reduce complications associated with transfusions, such as transfusion reactions and blood incompatibility. An additional benefit of autotransfusion is that it provides patients with blood that includes more functional cells. This is beneficial system for patients that do not wish to undergo transfusions.

The agreements commenced last November. All acute and continuum of care members of the Premier alliance are eligible to utilize the agreement.
