New Stainless Laryngoscope Blades Safer

Cenmed Enterprises expanded its line of Disposable Stainless Steel Laryngoscope Blades, which includes a variety of sizes and blades. Their blade product offerings are considered the broadest in the industry, as detailed on the Healthcare Sales and Marketing Network.

The new blades, the Cenmed Surgikal brand, are available in both pediatric and adult sizes. Blades range from 00 to 4 in size. Pediatrics sizes available include 00, 0, and 1. The blades are suitable for use with both fiber optic and conventional laryngoscopes. The tool is particularly designed to support oral intubation.

The value of the Cenmed stainless steel line is that available data indicates that disinfection and cleaning protocols for laryngoscopes are not 100 percent effective against a variety of infectious sources, including viruses and bacteria. Using a new blade with every patient is the only means to assure prevention of cross-contamination.

Plastic blades have been available in the past, but had limitations when compared to those comprised of metal. In particular, plastic blades did not offer clinicians with the same strength or tactile feedback for clinicians. The new Surgikal line works effectively with most handles available on the market.

Vision-Sciences launched a new endoscope last week which includes a shield to encase the entire product. This component is entirely disposable and purported to minimize cross-contamination between patients. Introduction of the product was detailed on Hospital Buyer.
