Real Time Scanning During ENT Surgery Available

pro med instruments, Incorporated (PMI) and NeuroLogica Corporation have collaborated to introduce a system that allows for real-time CT scanning during head and neck surgeries, the DORO CereTom. The system is being launched this week at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting.

The system can be used during both non-invasive and invasive surgical procedures conducted on the head and neck and provides high quality CT images. It was specifically developed to support use with standard operating tables and is highly portable. Optimal positioning of the patients was also integrated in the product design. CereTom, the CT scanner, is a product from Neurologica and was integrated with the DORO product line for stabilization from pro med instruments.

Different iterations of the product are available to suit both pediatric and adult patients. The company announced that the system was available nationally as of September 17th.

CT scanning is frequently implicated immediately following neurosurgical procedures. Moving a patient from the operating room to radiology for scanning is time consuming and impedes completion of the procedure. By implementing a tool that can complete the CT scanning within the operating room, workflow is not interrupted.

Immediate access to CT scanning can also provide clinicians with additional information intraoperatively. Additional benefits to patient safety and comfort are noted with implementation of the DORO CereTom. Instead of going to radiology immediately after surgery, patients move to the recovery room. That setting is more amenable to advanced monitoring.
