Chronic Pain Tool Market-Ready

Medtronic’s device to treat chronic low back pain with neurostimulation received marketing clearance from the FDA. The device, the Specify 5-6-5 surgical lead, works seamlessly with the company’s other devices for delivery of neurostimulation therapy. Existing products are programming software tools that support determination of optimal therapy for each patient.

The device is specifically designed to fit within the epidural space and includes 16 electrodes organized into three separate columns in the shape of a diamond. The electrodes can each be modulated separately for optimal therapeutic control.

The Specify also entails a tripolar design with an insulated wire lead. This is the first FDA approval for a tripolar neurostimulation device.
