Siemens to Test MR+PET Combo Device
According to Health Imaging News, Siemens Medical Solutions unveiled a prototype of a new imaging system that simultaneously conducts magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET). The company plans to begin testing of the system by year’s end.
The system is currently on display in Berlin at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). The first images using the MR-PET were already obtained of a human brain.
Potential applications for the combined imaging modality include certain malignancies and neurologic evaluations. Examples of such include study of Alzheimers and Parkinson to evaluate underlying pathology and disease progression.
