AxRecon Image Reconstruction Launched by Acceleware

Acceleware Corporation announced the launch of their new tool to support image reconstruction for medical imaging with a press release on their website. The AxRecon Image Reconstruction Solution also supports reconstruction for non-destructive and security testing markets. The new tool was displayed at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR).

Completion of image reconstruction from CT studies generally requires hours of time. The AxRecon Image Reconstruction Solution reduces the time to complete reconstruction down to minutes. The system is suitable for existing cone beam CT scanners.

Backlog is diminished by increasing the speed of filtered back projection computations. The data reconstruction process is accelerated and image quality improved without workflow disruptions. The solution also minimizes the physical footprint of high performance computing system and reduces use of energy during image reconstruction.

AxRecon incorporates Acceleware’s existing proprietary acceleration libraries, which include NVIDIA Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) that have dramatic parallel processing power. The AxRecon solution easily integrates with imaging systems without requiring extensive set-up.

With current systems, CT image reconstruction is an inefficient process for the radiology department. This can limit both quality and throughput for researchers, clinicians, and companies. One approach that can save time is sacrificing the quality of images. However, this can amount to loss of key information.

This product marks Acceleware’s entry to the imaging market. The company notes that this an area that holds opportunities for significant growth. The company specializes in the development and marketing of software solutions that seamlessly integrate with heterogeneous hardware environments. These systems do not require rewriting of parallel processing applications.
