Carestream Health RIS, PACS Solutions Deployed
The NHS in Scotland, the Scotland Executive, commenced a program to implement PACS countrywide using a program from Carestream Health. This follows a pilot project at hospitals in Dumfries, Galloway, and Glasgow where the system was successful. The deployment was described by Health Imaging News.
Over the next two years, each hospital in Scotland will have a new PACS system implemented from Carestream Health. This information will be used to populate a national database that will store radiology studies for all Scottish residents.
The goal of the program is to acquire, store, retrieve, and display patient images procured with radiologic evaluation. The images can then be viewed and/or shared at and between healthcare facility across Scotland. To further this objective, the country will provide facilities with additional tools needed to support PACS implementation.
The PACS programs have already been implemented in a number of hospitals, including Victoria Infirmary, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Southern General, Gartnavel General. Most recently, Western deployed the solution.
Carestream Health also reported the recent contracts completed with a variety of organizations to deploy both PACS and RIS Solutions. AUSL in Bologna, Italy implemented PACS systems in 14 different facilities, in part to support disaster recovery efforts. The additional contracts were primarily signed with single unit organizations.
