MEDRAD Releases Extension Set for CT Power Injection
MEDRAD announced the release of a new product to accompany their CT power injection systems, the PRES Pressure-Rated Extension Set. The tool is a disposable tube that connects power injection tubing to the patient’s catheter for IV access. The product launch was detailed in a press release available on the company’s web site.
The system reduces the likelihood of set rupture when using the MEDRAD CT injection systems because it accommodates the needs dictated by the fast flow rate and high pressure employed during introduction of CT contrast agents. The FDA recommends only using systems that can tolerate these conditions when conducting power injection.
Risks from rupture include contamination of the CT suite, as well as exposing personnel and patients to the contrast material and blood. This event generally requires replacement of IV access, which disrupts workflow in the radiology department.
At the same time, MEDRAD also unveiled a line of adhesive strips designed to support use of the PRES Extension Set. The HandiSTRIPS are available to foster compliance with CDC guidelines for sterile procedures during placement of catheters. The strips secure both the extension set and IV catheters to the patient. They can also be used following the imaging study to secure bandages as needed.
MEDRAD’s primary focus is the development and manufacture of tools and services to support imaging. Products offered by the company for diagnostic imaging applications include magnetic resonance imaging surface coils, patient care products, equipment services, and vascular injection systems.
