Patient Safety Acknowledges Benefits of PACS

At the meeting of the National Patient Safety Foundation, two poster presentations highlighted the benefits of implementing PACS.

One poster detailed benefits when PACS are integrated with a hospital’s overall information system. A particular benefit noted is easy access to previously completed studies when patients are evaluated in the emergency room.

The second poster noted the ability to expand radiology care to healthcare organizations that do not have regular access to radiologists, a common problem in the rural setting. A web-based PACS system allows review off-site by a clinician in real-time.
