Video-Based Cystoscopy Approved for Use with EndoSheath

The FDA has approved use of the Cystoscope CST-5000 from Vision-Sciences, Incorporated. The new tool is an advanced, digital, video-based endoscopy tool with a built-in light source designed for cystoscopy. The approval was noted by the Healthcare Sales and Marketing Network.

This tool is the third in a series of new endoscopes introduced by Vision-Sciences. The lightweight endoscopy systems are ideal for diagnostic procedures because they all include the smallest diameter videoscope insertion tube. Introduction of the two previous systems, ENT-5000 and TNE-5000, was published on HospitalBuyer.

The system contains a miniature charge coupled device (CCD) camera that provides high resolution imaging. The camera is positioned at the top of the insertion tube. This provides high definition, vibrant, sharp full screen images of the bladder.

The CST-5000 is designed to be used in combination with the Company’s EndoSheath technology. It includes a disposable operative channel and completely isolates endoscope components from patient tissue contact. Instruments are also prevented from contacting the instrument. The EndoSheath mitigates the need to complete time-intensive disinfection between uses of the endoscope. This allows for the device to be used more frequently, and decreases costs for both maintenance and repair, and reduces staff exposure to toxic substances used for disinfection.

One benefit of this endoscope is that it eliminates the need to use a separate camera head, as well as optical coupler and light guide cable. An additional advantage is that the system does not include a operating channel.

The company argues that their new line of endoscopy products will likely replace fiberoptic technology in endoscopic tools.
