Breast Biopsy System for MRI Updated

Ethicon introduced the next generation of its Mammotome MR Biopsy System for breast tissue biopsies conducted with magnetic resonance guidance.

The biopsy system uses a vacuum system to remove suspicious tissue with MRI guiance. The vacuum device is placed with a small-gauge needle. The needle can also be used to deliver local anaesthesia to the site.

The system has a depth locking tool to provide support during sampling and also assures consistency of depth and instrument penetration. The variety of accompanying sizes in probes and needles allows for quick acquisition of the specimen.

MRI screening, in combination with mammography, is recommended for women at high risk of developing breast cancer.
