Specialty Guidewire Introduced by Vascular Solutions

The AxisWire, a new specialty guidewire, was introduced by Vascular Solutions. The wire is indicated for percutaneous vessel entry completed with the Seldinger technique to deliver intravascular devices.

The device is intended to provide clinicians with a new entry means which combines both a tip that is atraumatic and is easy to deliver. The tool is a 0.035 inch specialty guidewire which combines both a floppy distal tip and a stiff proximal shaft, as described by Cardiovascular Business News.

The flexible device tip, at 12cm, diminishes trauma (pdf) during wire placement. Pushability and support for the wire are delivered through the device’s heavy duty proximal shaft, as detailed in the company’s device brochure.

The AxisWire was designed with a PTFE coating. The system is available in a length of 90cm. The company anticipates the availability of two new lengths, 145 cm and 260 cm, next month.
