New Dressings for Chronic Wounds
New dressings for hard to treat wounds were announced March 30th from Archimed, a subsidiary of Insense Limited, which include oxygen-concentrating hydrogel. These are appropriate for use in chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers or post-operative wounds that won’t heal.
The utility of oxygen to support wound healing is well established secondary to the need for energy, which requires oxygen. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is sometimes used for difficult wounds, but has not been widely adopted.
Covering wounds to prevent scab formation limits the ability to support the oxygen needed for healing. Oxyzyme creates an oxygen-rich, moist wound healing environment. Clinical trials have shown improvement in healing over four to six weeks in long-term, hard to heal wounds.
